How to Use MassStats
From the
MassStats page click on
"Go".The first screen will display a map of Massachusetts.
Step 1: Select the Geographic Area Type.
Because MassStats is a geographically based system, the first step in obtaining data will always be to select a type of geographic area. When you first enter the system you will see a map of Massachusetts.
Step 2: Select a specific area.
Click on the arrow next to the display bar that says "State Map." You will see a drop down menu. This menu will list all of the area types. From this list, select the type of area such as city, town, county, or local workforce investment area for which you want data.
You can change the area for which you are obtaining data at any time by selecting the Geography tab and re-selecting the area type.
Select a specific area by clicking on the map. The area you select
will be displayed in the Selected Geography box on the page.
Step 3: Select the category of data.
Choose the category by clicking on the its blue tab at the top of the screen. The tab will change to red to indicate the category you have selected.
Example: Viewing population data for Massachusetts.
Each data section - category - of MassStats includes a "Help" section to give you additional information on the contents. In some sections, you will be able to produce and print charts and graphs.
Click on the "What's New" box to find out what new data has been added to the system.
Click on the "i" on each page to find the source for the data.
