MassStats Contents
Use MassStats to get to a wide variety of economic data for the state of Massachusetts and its local areas. Data is organized in the following 10 categories:
Area Profiles
With Area Profiles you can obtain a broad overview of regional economic conditions. Data available includes:
- Population
- Data on per capita and median family income
- Average weekly wages
- Number of goods producing and service producing firms
- Labor force estimates including the total labor force, unemployment rates, the number
of employed and unemployed workers
- Average employment for industries
- Layoffs by industry
Industry
The Industry section provides the latest industry data for specific geographic areas of Massachusetts. You will be able to view:
- Industry employment and wages
- Industrial projections
- Industry/Occupation matrix
Occupations
The Occupations section gives you the latest occupation data for specific geographic areas. In this section, you can view data on:
- Occupational wages
- Occupational projections
- Occupation/Industry matrix
- Licensed occupations
Population
The Population section includes the following population estimates and projections for specific geographic areas:
- Four years of estimated population totals
- Estimated percent change in population for three decades
- Projected population totals for 2000 - 2005 - 2010
- Corresponding projected percent change for those periods
- Comparison to larger geographic areas
There are also comparisons to larger geographic areas. For instance:
- County population information will compare to the state's population information
- Population information for Massachusetts will compare to the corresponding figures for the United States.
Income
In the Income section, you can access the following statistics:
- Personal per capita income
- Median household income
- Median family income
- HUD median household income
There are also comparisons to larger geographic areas. For instance:
- County income data will be compared to the state's income data
- Income data in this section is also compared to U.S. income data.

With Employers you can find information on Massachusetts employers by industry.
The database provides employer information to be used for:

Labor
In the Labor section, you can obtain statistics on labor force conditions in a specific area of Massachusetts, the entire state, and the United States. There is annual data, and some monthly data, starting with the most recent year or month.
Labor Supply
Labor Supply gives you information on job applicants for specific geographic areas of the state.
The Labor Supply data is based on what is known as Employment Security Applicants. Employment Security Applicants are job seekers who have obtained services through Massachusetts One-Stop Career Centers.
Local Info
With Local Info you can get a focused view of the latest economic data for specific geographic areas in Massachusetts. You can look at data on local:
- Tax Revenue
- Property Values
- Building Permits
Mass Layoffs
With Mass Layoff Statistics you can examine the industrial layoff patterns for a variety of geographic areas for a specific period of time.
